Today is Valentine's Day.
I know that.
Most all of y'all know that.
I've seen everything from those of y'all who are happily embracing today to those of y'all who are happily ignoring the day. Some people LOVE a day full of love; while others see it as a "Hallmark Holiday" with either too much pressure or too much cheesiness.
I guess I'm somewhere in the middle. Of course we don't need a day to remind us to love the ones we love. If we do, we are in a really sad shape of affairs. And we should show our loved ones we love them each and every day, not just today .... every single day. But I also think there is something sweet and wonderful about a day where we go out of our way to make that extra effort to think about love.
(Of course this reminds me of an episode of "The Middle" where Frankie complains that Mike never tells her that he loves her. His reply? "I told you I loved you on our wedding day. If that had changed, I'd tell you." That makes me laugh, because it's a cute sitcom. This is NOT how it should work in our real lives!!)
My daughter is filled with excitement, because she and Eden spent the week making and packaging up cookies to deliver to many of the special people in their lives. I know how much work goes into these particular cookies, and I'm not so sure I'd be willing to simply give them away after all that effort, but Jenni is happy and loving that she and Eden can give the cookies away. Could she do this anytime? Of course, but there is something sweet and nice about heart shaped cookies and a special day on which to share them.
Mark and I are not doing anything too special, nor are we ignoring the day. (see? somewhere in the middle) We did get one another a card, but not 'mushy' ones. (ew) OK, if you are the mushy type, great for you, but I am so NOT the mushy type. Give me a laugh, and we're good! I am making a nice dinner tonight, but then, we eat dinner most every night .... so we're not really celebrating the day, and yet, we are.
For all of y'all out there celebrating Valentine's Day with a husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, etc.... enjoy your wonderful Valentine's Day!
For all of y'all out there who don't have a husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, etc.... enjoy your Valentine's Day. Why? Because I am betting that you still have love in your life. We are all either parents. or have parents. or have siblings. or have friends. or have neighbors. or have pets. I'd be willing to bet that there are very few of us out there who don't have love in our lives. So even if you don't have a husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend in your life right now ... embrace love. Take your parents out to dinner. Take your children out to dinner. Take your best friend out to dinner. Take your dog for a walk. And laugh. And love. And embrace.
And in case there is still someone out there thinking they don't have love, I say "nay nay".... for we all have the GREATEST love. We have God. Who loves us more than we will ever know or understand. And we have Jesus. Who loves us more than we will ever imagine. Oh, dear ones .... yes, you are loved. More than you realize. Please always remember that. You are loved. And you are loved with a perfect love.
Enjoy your day. Embrace your day. And thank God for His love.
