By now, unless you've been hiding under a rock, or you really don't know me, you know I sell Mary Kay. I can go on and on and on about all the reasons I love my Mary Kay, but one of the biggest reasons is because part of the whole idea behind this company is enriching the lives of others. I have been so blessed in my life, and I love, love, LOVE helping others. And this is, after all, the season of giving.
I realize there are many wonderful people and organizations who all rely on our donations, but what jumps out at me, what speaks to me, what knocks me upside the head is comforting some lonely elderly people this holiday season.
As our holidays are filled with family and carols, cookies and snowmen, hustle and bustle it's easy to forget that there are people who will not be filled with family and love for Christmas. People who are lonely every day, but somehow the holidays make that loneliness feel tenfold. Or more.
I want to reach out to those people and let them know they are not forgotten. They are loved. We do care for them, and we do think of them.
So ...........
I have spent some time with our Pastor, and he has rolled this over in his brain and discussed it with a few others, and we have come up with some Grandparents who are in need of love and caring this Christmas.
I will be making gift baskets for each Grandparent.
Each gift basket will contain three different moisturizing products from Mary Kay:
Extra Emollient Night Cream (excellent for dry patches such as elbows, knees, feet)
http://www.marykay.com/geiger62/en-US/Skin-Care/Concern/Moisturizing/Mary-Kay-Extra-Emollient-Night-Cream/100407.partId?eCatId=10659
Mint Bliss Energizing Lotion for Feet and Legs (helps tired feet and legs feel revived)
Mint Bliss™ Energizing Lotion for Feet & Legs
and
Fragrance Free Satin Hand Cream (this absorbs quickly and provides a protective layer that lasts through several hand washings)
Fragrance-Free Satin Hands® Hand Cream
(I tried to find products that were good for sensitive skin, gender neutral and would help most for dry skin. Our skin really does dry out as we age .... as I am quickly finding out for myself.)
I will also include at least one, if not two, pairs of socks with each basket and, to help with the festive feel of the holiday, a Christmas ornament. I have not found the ornaments yet, but I will be out shopping soon. I will include a picture when I find what I am looking for, but I am thinking some sort of nativity, angel or along those lines. I do not want something to hang on a tree. Not everyone will have a tree, so I'm thinking something which can simply sit on a table or shelf.
I hope to take pictures along the way to share so that in future years this project will grow and grow so we can help more and more people.
Now, what can you do?
Well, glad you asked.
I will be using my Mary Kay resources (I will NOT make any money on this at all .... ALL monies will go to our grandparents), and Mark and I will take care of the shopping, wrapping, delivering, but we are relying on YOUR donations.
For $25.00 you can adopt a grandparent.
All too often the elderly are the most forgotten this time of the year. Please help remind them that they are loved.
Please contact me today, and I will happily and lovingly accept your donation.
I can add a card with your name on your gift basket ... or you may remain anonymous, that is entirely up to you.
Thank you and Merry Christmas,
--lisa (and Mark)
Welcome to my world...!!
thank you for allowing me to share a part of my life, my world, with you.

Because life around here is never boring....
Mark came home last night with every intention of going out to the barn and getting a few things done, but then I was going through my instagram and was reminded by a photo posted by Audrey that it was "50 Cent Corn Dog Day" at Sonic. Mark wanted his corn dogs, so off we went.
We had been wanting to get the goldfish for his aquaponics project for a while as well, and we kept forgetting, so we decided while we were out, we'd run to Wal-Mart and pick up the fish too. No problem.
(On a side note, I can now say I have tried (we have tried) NUTELLA. I have managed to make it 51 years without ever trying nutella, but many, many people keep telling me I just HAD to try it. Yesterday was the day. And why was it the day? Because my cousin, David, told me it would be. Here's his exact quote: "What?! That day is today, sister." And so it was. Who knew David held such power? As we were standing at the "20 and under" checkout counter at our local Wal-Mart waiting to purchase our three little goldfish, I saw the nutella snack pack. I grabbed it. Mark looked at me, and I told him it was time. I didn't even wait to get to the car. I began opening the snack as we were walking. I grab one of the little cookie strips, smother it in nutella and stick it in Mark's mouth. Then I fix one for myself.)
We get home, and I'm looking at the fish. I'm a little worried that they're sucking all the air out of the bag that they are traveling home in. Mark opens the bag and takes them out to the aquaponics pond. He submerged the bag, but clipped it to the side of the pond, because he had heard that you didn't want to just 'shock' the fish, but let them slowly acclimate to the differing water. OK. While waiting, he went to edge the front yard, because he had just had his edger fixed, and I went to water the garden. I finish watering, and he tries to finish edging, but he is not happy. He can GET the edger running, but he can't KEEP the edger running. (Good thing we just had it fixed!) OK, on to something else. Let's go check on the fish. We go out, and he unclips the bag, turns it upside down to dump the fish into the tank .... first fish: swim, swim .... second fish: swim, swim .... third fish: thunk.
Me: Well, that's not good.
Mark: crap.
Me: Is he dead?
Mark: looks like it.
crap.
We decide to go back to Wal-Mart. I mean, we'd had this fish less than an hour, and he was dead.
Me: I've never returned a dead fish to Wal-Mart
Mark: Me either.
No problem. Customer service told us to go pick out another fish. We did. Back home. It's now getting dark, so forget the acclimating period, Mark just dumps the fish. He swims off.....
Mark leaves to go talk to the guy who had fixed the edger.
I'm home alone. I had just grabbed a beer, sat down, put it on the table next to me and began playing on my laptop.
The electricity went off, and then came right back on.
Went off again.
I kept playing on the laptop for a minute when I noticed (duh!) I had no wifi.
Electricity is not coming back on. It's dark. Pitch black dark.
Fine. OK. So I go to put the laptop down, and I knock over my full beer. In the dark.
I grab my phone to try and use that little bit of light to grab the beer bottle and set it upright, but of course (OF COURSE!) my crappy phone decides it is not going to cooperate. It's dead.
I get up in the blackness and begin talking to the doggies. I head toward the kitchen to get a flashlight, and I'm telling the doggies to stay out of my way, because I can't see them.
I get a flashlight and some towels, and I begin cleaning up the stupid spilled beer in the dark while holding the flashlight.
Mark comes home and amazingly .... I AM NOT HAPPY.
Might as well go to bed.
Good night.
And somewhere just before midnight I'm woken up, because the electricity does come back on reminding me which lights had been on prior to the black out......... great. thanks.

Love ....
Today is Valentine's Day.
I know that.
Most all of y'all know that.
I've seen everything from those of y'all who are happily embracing today to those of y'all who are happily ignoring the day. Some people LOVE a day full of love; while others see it as a "Hallmark Holiday" with either too much pressure or too much cheesiness.
I guess I'm somewhere in the middle. Of course we don't need a day to remind us to love the ones we love. If we do, we are in a really sad shape of affairs. And we should show our loved ones we love them each and every day, not just today .... every single day. But I also think there is something sweet and wonderful about a day where we go out of our way to make that extra effort to think about love.
(Of course this reminds me of an episode of "The Middle" where Frankie complains that Mike never tells her that he loves her. His reply? "I told you I loved you on our wedding day. If that had changed, I'd tell you." That makes me laugh, because it's a cute sitcom. This is NOT how it should work in our real lives!!)
My daughter is filled with excitement, because she and Eden spent the week making and packaging up cookies to deliver to many of the special people in their lives. I know how much work goes into these particular cookies, and I'm not so sure I'd be willing to simply give them away after all that effort, but Jenni is happy and loving that she and Eden can give the cookies away. Could she do this anytime? Of course, but there is something sweet and nice about heart shaped cookies and a special day on which to share them.
Mark and I are not doing anything too special, nor are we ignoring the day. (see? somewhere in the middle) We did get one another a card, but not 'mushy' ones. (ew) OK, if you are the mushy type, great for you, but I am so NOT the mushy type. Give me a laugh, and we're good! I am making a nice dinner tonight, but then, we eat dinner most every night .... so we're not really celebrating the day, and yet, we are.
For all of y'all out there celebrating Valentine's Day with a husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, etc.... enjoy your wonderful Valentine's Day!
For all of y'all out there who don't have a husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, etc.... enjoy your Valentine's Day. Why? Because I am betting that you still have love in your life. We are all either parents. or have parents. or have siblings. or have friends. or have neighbors. or have pets. I'd be willing to bet that there are very few of us out there who don't have love in our lives. So even if you don't have a husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend in your life right now ... embrace love. Take your parents out to dinner. Take your children out to dinner. Take your best friend out to dinner. Take your dog for a walk. And laugh. And love. And embrace.
And in case there is still someone out there thinking they don't have love, I say "nay nay".... for we all have the GREATEST love. We have God. Who loves us more than we will ever know or understand. And we have Jesus. Who loves us more than we will ever imagine. Oh, dear ones .... yes, you are loved. More than you realize. Please always remember that. You are loved. And you are loved with a perfect love.
Enjoy your day. Embrace your day. And thank God for His love.

Our Lives are Never Boring....
Mark and I do not have any kids living with us. In the summers, spring breaks and various holidays we love our time with Jacob, but for the most part, Mark and I make up the only humans in our home.
However, it dawned on me the other morning, for a home with only two humans, a great many mouths are dependent on us each and every day.
For having no children at home, we feed eleven mouths a day; twelve with Jacob.
The chickens are easy. As long as we keep their coop clean, let them out in the mornings, shut them in at night (for their safety), give them fresh water and food ... they are content. They come running when we go out with little treats (watching a chicken 'run' is way too much fun!) and they even let us pet them, but more often than not, they are perfectly content to be left on their own.
The dogs .... not so easy.
Georgia O'Keeffe remains the best dog. I'd put her up there in the category of 'best dog ever', but I have had some other 'best dogs' in my life. She has to be at the top of the list though. She doesn't know she's a labrador. She does not like water. She does not retrieve. She doesn't even dig. What she does is love. She mothers. She listens. She sits (almost) anytime she is told. She waits (almost) anytime she is told. She almost never gets into any mischief or trouble. When Fritz' allergies would act up, she would lick and lick and lick his ears and nose and mouth and clean him all up. I realize this is gross by our standards, but to Georgia, it was love. Recently our 'new cat' was sick. She was sneezing and had watery eyes. Georgia would lick and lick and lick that tiny little kitten. Not sure how the kitten took it, but to Georgia, it was love.
Cecilia Beaux is becoming quite a good dog. How could she not? Her role model is Georgia O'Keeffe. She still seems a bit skittish with humans. Jacob was excited the other day when she finally allowed him to pet her. This is not something she allows with just anyone. She will come to Mark. She will come to me. She is still a bit uneasy with other humans. Because we rescued her, we don't know her history. We don't think she was beaten, she doesn't seem afraid of people or being hit. But we wonder if she was just neglected. She doesn't seem to trust humans. We've also been working on her 'potty training'. She had a few 'accidents' in the house when we initially got her, but since then she hasn't. At first I wondered if that meant she was catching on, or if Mark and I were simply being trained. She'd get up and sniff around, and we'd kick into action. I think (I hope!) it now seems as though she is the one learning.
Georgia and Cecilia have a nice routine. They go out to run and play in the big pasture during the day. When the weather's bad, or if we happen to be home relaxing, we do sometimes bring them in during the day. Sometimes when the weather is bad, I try to keep them inside, and they want out. Sometimes they have too much energy. In the evenings when we are pretty much in for the night (eating supper, watching television, etc.) they, too, come in for family time. They sleep in their kennels for now, but as Cecilia proves to truly be potty trained, they'll eventually sleep on their beds either in the living room or in our bedroom.
Dolce is our most rotten of the bunch. Thankfully she is only 10 or so pounds. It's not her fault. I have spoiled her from day one. She will run off in a heart beat outside if it means finding food. Thankfully, if either one of us yells at her, she will come back. She listens. Reluctantly. She will eat anything she can find. She only weighs 10 pounds, but if it were up to her, she would eat herself into oblivion. If I am sitting down, you can bet she is on me or next to me. Mark calls her my hot water bottle, because she gives me heat. Her doggie bed sits on the floor right next to me. She enjoys when Mark works nights, because that means she gets to sleep IN our bed!! (Don't tell Mark.) She is also the reason I have to be careful with both the cat food and the cat's litter box. (ew ew ew) Yes, Dolce is always getting into something. She is also our barker. The first to alert us when someone drives up or comes to the door .... or merely walks or bicycles down the street in front of our house.
The cats ... also not so easy.
Eartha Kitt is still missing. This breaks my heart, but I have not given up complete hope. I have heard stranger stories with kitties returning after long absences, and I would love nothing better than for her to be one of those stories. I pray, that if she is dead, she died quickly and didn't suffer. Although I also hold on to the hope that maybe someone else adopted her, and she is living the high life in a nice home where she gets to be a complete 'indoor' cat, and that is the reason she can't get back to us. We made her an 'indoor/outdoor' cat, but she always wanted to be strictly inside. Maybe she has finally got that wish with another family. That would be nice.
Ray Charles is a GREAT indoor/outdoor cat. He loves being outside, and gets antsy when he is in for too long. He shows up to eat and when the weather is bad. We get to enjoy his company much more in the winter than in the summer. Last night he wanted out, and I tried to keep him in, (I've become much more protective since Eartha went missing) but he wanted OUT. I finally let him out. Within about ten minutes, he wanted back in. Yes, Ray, it's cold out there. He is an easy cat.
Billie Holiday. When we went looking for Eartha Kitt, we found a cat who looked so much like our Eartha. Initially I even thought it was her, but on closer inspection, it wasn't. Billie has a touch of white on her nose that Eartha did not have, and Billie has white feet. But once we saw Billie, we could not let the shelter put her down. Mark is the one who wanted to save Billie. Billie was so affectionate even while in the shelter, even while in her cage. We saved her. The vet thinks she has been spayed, but because the hair has grown back on her tummy, he can't be sure. He thinks he feels a scar. She goes back in a month, and I'm supposed to keep an eye on her during that month to see if she goes into heat or not. She seems to have been an indoor/outdoor cat, because she is quite comfortable in the house .... and even likes to sleep under the covers of our bed, but she also sits by the storm doors and windows and seems to want to get outside. Because of the uncertainty of her being spayed, and because I want to make sure she knows this is her home now, she hasn't been allowed out yet .... when the time comes, I know I will worry. Billie is not an easy cat. She opens cabinets and plays with the objects inside. (Does she not know I'm OCD????) She is almost constantly underfoot wanting to be pet and given attention. She messes up the rugs and comforters. She finds mischief easily.
Dusty Springfied just got her name today. Up until then, she's been 'new kitty'. New kitty has been ill. Hopefully Dusty won't be. Dusty is not 100%, but she is on the mend. She hasn't been into any mischief, but we'll see if that changes once she feels herself. Hard to judge a cat's personality when all she's been is sick. She's been getting lots of sleep, attention and medicine. She has made her new home in Dolce's bed. This works wonderfully durning the day when Dolce is happy in the living room ... not so good at night, when Dolce is ready for bed. I enjoyed last night lying in bed watching the two of them. Dolce did not know what to do when she went to climb into her bed, and this thing was in it!! She tried nudging new kitty out of her bed, but new kitty wasn't budging. I watched for a few minutes of entertainment, but eventually I moved new kitty (she didn't have her name yet) so Dolce could reclaim her own bed.
See why it's hard for Mark and I to leave our home for any extended period of time? Hard to find someone to come and take care of and feed all these little creatures who are so dependent on us. But, I absolutely cannot imagine life without being surrounded by animals. Yes, at times they are a pain, but they give us too much love, joy and entertainment.
Well, I gotta go ...... a couple dogs need walking.
However, it dawned on me the other morning, for a home with only two humans, a great many mouths are dependent on us each and every day.
